Announcements

Today we welcome Steve Carpenter to our worship service. Steve is the Director of Development for MennoMedia, the publishing agency of Mennonite Church USA. Steve previously served as the Conference Coordinator for Virginia Mennonite Conference.

The 13th annual Festival of Praise will be this afternoon at 4 p.m. at the Eastern Mennonite School auditorium, 801 Parkwood Drive, Harrisonburg, Va. This praise-filled concert will feature 11 men’s a cappella singing groups and a combination choir directed by Jay Hartzler. An offering will support the ministries of Virginia Mennonite Missions.

Our Missions Offering will be next Sunday and will be sent to VMM & VMC.

Staunton Mennonite Women:  Save the date for our annual Christmas Dinner, Tuesday, Dec. 2, at 6 p.m. at our church.  Please plan to bring an item for a silent auction: a craft item, holiday goodies, jewelry, a scarf, plants, anything you no longer use, but think someone else could.

Peggy Blosser thanks you for all the cards, prayers, and gifts during her recent illness.

Acts 17:16-17: 16 While Paul was waiting for them in Athens, he was greatly distressed to see that the city was full of idols. 17 So he reasoned in the synagogue with both Jews and God-fearing Greeks, as well as in the marketplace day by day with those who happened to be there.

You are witnesses

Gathering

Leader: Dear Lord Jesus, Word made flesh to bring into focus
the glory of the Father, we come to worship you.
People: As you prayed for your disciples present and future,
so we pray that we would be made holy—
consecrated—with the truth.
Leader: As God gave you a mission in the world,
strengthen us to accept our mission in the world.
People: As you, Lord Jesus, prayed for those who will
believe in you, so we pray that people would know
you as we bear witness about you.
Leader: God, may we all become one heart and mind—
All: so the world might believe that you sent Jesus,
and love us in the same way you love Jesus. Amen.

Offering

God, you generously gave yourself to humanity. Infected by
your generosity and love, we now offer ourselves and our resources
back to you to help the world know you, too. Amen.

Sending

Triune God, may we, gifted to Jesus,
remain in him, so we can know his glory and splendor.
Many have never known you,
but Jesus has known you and,
along with a great cloud of witnesses,
we know you incarnated Jesus with a mission.
Jesus made your very being known to us—
and continues to make it known,
so that your love might be known to the world through us.
Amen.

November is Mission Month. Today’s worship resources were written by Nathan
and Taryn Dirks, Mennonite Church Canada Witness workers from Niagara-onthe-
Lake, Ontario. They help Mennonite Church Canada engage the world with the
reconciling gospel of Jesus Christ by forming a people of God, becoming a global
church, and growing leaders for the church.
