Be
doers of the word
Gathering
Leader: Who has a
god as near as the Lord our God whenever
we call to him?
All: Those who diligently observe the commandments, who
walk blamelessly, and do what is right—
Leader: who not only honor God with their lips, but also
through actions; who not only hear the word, but are
also doers of the word;
People: who care for orphans and widows in distress;
who keep their promises even when it hurts;
All: who are slow to anger and quick to welcome with meekness
the implanted word that has the power to save
our souls!
Confessing
Holy God, you know our hearts and all the evil intentions that
come from within that make us unclean. You know when we
try to hide our sins by keeping up a good front or by comparing
ourselves to others who have openly broken the law. You know
the hypocrisy and wrongful pride that manifests itself when we
speak and point our fingers to condemn others.
People see when our actions do not match what we say we
believe. Our sins keep them from seeing your light, your truth,
and your love.
Forgive us, Lord. Make our hearts pure and our actions loving.
Amen.
Sending
You have heard God’s perfect law. Go now, letting God’s light
shine in your life in all you say and all you do, knowing God’s
blessing as you become a blessing to others.
