Announcements

Staunton Mennonite Church will not be holding Sunday School through the months of June, July, and August. Instead there will be a time of fellowship before the worship service from 10:00 – 10:25. Coffee and light refreshments will be served.

There will be a Prayer Meeting this Wednesday at 7:00 pm

The annual Southern District Family Fun Day is planned for September 11 from 4-7 at Waynesboro Mennonite. Come enjoy a bounce house, soccer, miniature “train” rides, and a fellowship meal. See Garlan for more details.

Please consider helping make applesauce and apple butter for the 2016 Mennonite Central Committee Relief Sale. Applesauce will be made on September 16 at the Stuarts Draft Cannery, and apple butter boiling will be September 17 at Fellowship Park.

Please pray for:

• Joyce Showalter, as she anticipates surgery to stop internal bleeding.
• Ivan Sell, as he deals with multiple health concerns.
• Marlene’s niece, Carmen, as she deals with a tumor on the stem of her brain.

Acts 9:26-27a, “When [Paul] came to Jerusalem, he tried to join the disciples, but they were all afraid of him, not believing that he really was a disciple. But Barnabas took him and brought him to the apostles.”

Gathering

Come, delight in the Sabbath and worship with praise and
thanksgiving.
Come, honor the Sabbath and keep it holy with reverence and awe.
The Lord will guide you continually, and satisfy your needs.
The Lord will break through the darkness with life-giving light.

Praising

Leader: The Lord forgives our sins and heals our diseases.
People: How can we keep silent?
Leader: The Lord redeems our lives from nothingness and extends
unending grace and mercy.
People: How can we keep silent?
Leader: The Lord brings justice to the oppressed and is abounding in
steadfast love.
People: How can we keep silent?
All: Bless the Lord! With all that is within us, we bless God’s holy
name!

Confessing

Holy and patient God,
forgive us when we think more of ourselves than of others;
when we satisfy our own wishes
and remain unobservant of the needs around us.
We claim to be your followers,
yet our neighbors are hungry and thirsty;
longing for warm clothes, a friendly visit, or just a warm smile.
Nudge us to action, Lord,
so that we exhibit the same love and compassion
to others that you have shown to us.
In the name of our compassionate Jesus. Amen.
